Crosslake Fireworks Committee member Pat Netko told the Crosslake City Council on Monday, May 13, that the number of donations the committee is receiving for fireworks is down from last year.
Currently the committee is down $2,000 from its goal of $5,000. The city provides $5,000 of the $10,000 total fireworks cost from the city budget, and the remaining $5,000 in funds is collected by donation.
Netko said that cans placed in businesses have seen a drop in donations, and St. Patrick’s Day Parade donations were also down.
Alden Hardwick, of the Parks and Library Foundation, reported that last year at this time the foundation had received 25 checks; this year it has received two. He encouraged the public to donate to the fireworks show.
The city did recently receive a $5,000 anonymous donation for the fireworks, but it was reported at previous meetings that the donation was meant to extend the fireworks, not to provide base funding.
