Heartland Animal Rescue Team’s (HART) annual walk on Saturday, May 4, at the Nisswa Community Center will have a Spanish flair, contributing to its new title — “Cinco De Bow-Wow.”
Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the walk at 10:30 a.m.
In addition to the walk, there will be a morning of fun with a “Cinco De Bow-Wow” theme, including a free “kids” corner where “Club YAH” students will entertain the youngsters with games, coloring and other activities.
There will be a “Sombrero” silent auction where people can bid on a sombrero filled with goodies. HART apparel plus other vendor items will be sold.
A “Walking Taco” lunch and other concessions will be available for purchase.
At noon the “Chihuahua and Wannabe Chihuahua” parade will feature owners and their canines dressed in colorful Spanish style costumes. A prize will be awarded to the best costumed pair.
Pet photos with a Mexican backdrop will be taken throughout the event for a $10 donation for a 5x7 photo plus a CD with three photos.
Lakeland Veterinary Hospital will be doing complimentary nail trims for dogs at the end of the walk, and each dog will receive a festive bandanna at the 1.5-mile mark.
All walk money will be used for direct animal care. The goal is to raise $30,000. People can pledge online at www.hartpets.org. Printable pledge forms are also on the website and at the shelter.
