East Gull Lake City Council discusses wastewater connection

Posted: April 23, 2013 - 4:57pm

The East Gull Lake City Council discussed the possibility of increasing the rate for wastewater billing with local resorts such as Cragun’s and Madden’s at its meeting April 2, according to draft meeting minutes.

The council postponed making a decision pending further research.

Mayor Dave Kavanaugh said the possible rate increase has been discussed in the past and was postponed until an Equivalent Residential Connection (ERC) report could be completed for the resorts.

This report is meant to determine if the city’s current ordinance concerning ERCs reflects the right information pertaining to usage in those resorts. A change in this ordinance could change costs of wastewater services for the resorts.

The question of why an increase was being considered was brought up. Kavanaugh suggested that an increase in cost could fund improvements and repair to wastewater system infrustructure.

In other business, the council:

• Began the process of making a plan to possibly create an easement concerning a sewer line running through property owned by Kavanaugh’s Resort. Kavanaugh abstained from the decision.

• Discussed road improvements for Green Gables and Green Hill. An informational meeting is planned for June 4. A tentative date for a formal public meeting was discussed for June 20.

• Discussed acquisition of land owned by Mark Lee for the construction of a fire station located next to city hall. Lee agreed to allow the city to have an appraisal done on the property.
