The Pine River-Backus School Board on Monday, April 15, hired Richard Aulie for the elementary school principal position being vacated by Jackie Bruns.
Aulie is a Crosby-Ironton native who has been an elementary school principal in Fosston for two years. Before that, he was a teacher while getting his administrator certificate.
“I started in education as a kindergarten teacher, and essentially most of my teaching experience was done in the Brainerd School District as a kindergarten teacher,” Aulie said.
Aulie and his wife were considering finding a school position closer to family in Brainerd and Crosby-Ironton. He received information about the PR-B position from a colleague, and his wife told him he had to apply.
Aulie was interviewed by the PR-B School Board. The interviews concluded April 1, and Aulie was chosen from a pool that was reduced from 34 applicants. Aulie’s contract included a 2013-14 salary of $76,000 for 213 duty days. His salary for 2014-15 is still open for negotiation.
Health insurance benefits for Aulie are set at $4,800 annually. All other terms will be per the Pine River-Backus Principals’ Association Master Agreement.
Aulie will fill the elementary principal position vacated by Bruns effective at the completion of the school year. His position will begin July 1.
“My expectations are to get to know the staff and students and community as a whole, build some relationships, meet people and do a lot of listening to get to know the good things that are going on in the school district,” Aulie said. “I’m looking forward to getting down there and meeting people and getting to know Pine River-Backus Elementary.”
