Marge Olek was celebrating Christmas with her family Dec. 23 when she collapsed in her home. Her husband, Ray Olek, performed CPR as their children called 911. Breezy Point police officer Jason Reiber responded to the call and applied an automated CPR device.
After further care by first responders and North Ambulance crew members, Marge was flown to the St. Cloud Hospital. There she was treated and released seven days later.
The Breezy Point City Council honored Reiber Monday night, April 1, with the Life Saver Award; it was Reiber’s fourth such award. The Oleks were also present at the meeting.
“My thanks go to him, very much,” Marge Olek said, hugging Reiber.
Reiber is a part of the police paramedic program. He said Breezy Point is one of only four such programs in the state. It was one of the main reasons he wanted to work in Breezy Point, he said, adding the other three programs are in the metro area.
