The Crow Wing County Highway Department has scheduled for approximately $5 million worth of roadway improvements for the 2013 construction season. A brief summary of the local projects is listed below:
Gull River Road bridge replacement located in the First Assessment District of Crow Wing County. The bridge is located near the west county line and just south of Gull Lake Dam Road. The existing bridge will be replaced with a new concrete and timber structure. Work is proposed to begin early in June and last the majority of the summer. The roadway will be closed with a detour utilizing Cass County CSAH 70, East Gull Lake Drive and Gull Lake Dam Road (Cass County Road 105).
CSAH 23 bridge replacement over the Daggett Brook. The bridge is located on CSAH 23 approximately one mile north of CR 139 on the Platte Lake/Daggett Brook Township line. The replacement was originally planned for 2016, but an accelerated schedule has been put in place. A detour will be put in place during construction utilizing CR 139, TH 25 and CSAH 2.
Seal Coat Program – Annually, approximately 10 to 15 miles of roadway receive a bituminous chips seal as a preventative measure to prolong pavement life. In 2013, CSAH 5 (Beaver Dam Road), CSAH 20 (Riverside Drive), CSAH 4 from CSAH 18 to Lakeshore Drive and CR 120 will receive the treatment.
Curve Chevron Signing – A project to install curve chevron signs on more than 750 curves to enhance safety is planned. The roadways involved include CSAH 8, CSAH 11, CSAH 14, CSAH 16, CSAH 31, CSAH 39, CR 112 and CR 116. Curve chevron signs have been proven to be a very effective tool in improving safety related to run-off-the-road crashes.
Annual Pavement Marking Contract – Each year approximately 3 million linear feet of pavement markings are placed on county roadways. This is a county-wide project and consists of center line and edge line striping.
