Tuesday, Feb. 26, the Pequot Lakes speech team will host its own invitational. The event is open to the public and the first round of competition will begin at 4:15 p.m.
The Pequot Lakes High School speech team continued its pattern of success Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Staples-Motley Invitational, bringing home 17 total awards. Twelve of these awards were earned in a competitive final round that brings together the top eight speakers in each category.

Great Speeches: Charlie Box, third.
Dramatic Duo: Marissa Miller/Luke Fyle, first; Mackenzie Renford/Emily Espeseth, red ribbon.
Creative Expression: Miller, second; Katie Northenscold, blue; Renford, red ribbon.
Dramatic Interpretation: Angela Cole, first; Fyle, second; Michelle Mink and Breanna Rhodes, red ribbons.
Serious Prose: Ben Sullivan, first; Cole, third.
Informative: Vanessa Sellner, blue ribbon.
Extemporaneous Reading: Abby Person, blue ribbon.
Serious Poetry: Erin Brine-Doyle, blue ribbon.
Humorous Interpretation: Jacob Giedd, blue ribbon; Nova Kilbourne, red ribbon.
Saturday, Feb. 23, the team traveled to Bemidji for the Lumberjack Invitational.
Though they are young, the Pequot Lakes junior high speech team is wasting no time proving it has talent. The Feb. 12 Junior High Invitational at Cass Lake-Bena sent the team home with a handful of well-earned awards.

Humorous Interpretation: Giedd and Espeseth, both runners-up.
Dramatic Duo: Easton Hanson/Olivia Ellson and Oliva Stattleman/Brianna Craig, runners-up.
Extemporaneous Reading: Person, runner-up.

Serious Poetry: Hannah Allen, runner up.
Informative: Sellner, third.
The success continued Tuesday night, Feb. 19, in Park Rapids with Allie Miller taking first in Creative Expression, Rhodes taking fourth in Dramatic Interpretation and Person taking third in Extemporaneous Reading.
