Wild Ones to host Master Gardener Feb. 7

Posted: January 29, 2013 - 6:25pm

The Brainerd Chapter Wild Ones will host Jim Ravis, Master Gardener, in a program titled Garden Plus! on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.

The program will run from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with refreshments from 6:30-7 p.m.

Learn how to build a landscape that is resilient, beautiful and functional. Ravis will share his tried and true approach to landscaping for habitat, beauty and water quality. His program will help you create a balanced landscape that supports the ecosystem, is self-sustaining and showcases your property.

Everyone is welcome. The program is free for Wild Ones members and $3 for non-members.

Ravis is a native plant and wildlife enthusiast and photographer who for the past 15 years has been pursuing his passion on his Ross Lake property. He has enhanced or restored native plant communities to his 20-acre plot of land, which includes 800 feet of shoreline.

Using undisturbed habitats as models, basic design principals and natural history he builds ecologically sound and resilient landscape features that are functional. As a result his land features unique natural self-sustaining habitats that are functional, beautiful and attract wildlife.
