A Brainerd woman was charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon following an alleged stabbing incident Jan. 17 in Nisswa.

Carie Mello, 42, was arrested Jan. 17 after allegedly stabbing Wayne Compton, 24, at his residence in Nisswa. Reports following the incident said Mellow stabbed Compton with a paring knife and then fled the scene.

Mello was captured in Merrifield shortly after the incident and made her first court appearance Jan. 18. Mello and Compton were both taken to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Crow Wing County Court Administration confirmed that Mello was released from the Crow Wing County Jail after posting bail for $10,000 with conditions, including that she maintain good behavior, possess no firearms, remain in the state and be subject to alcohol monitoring.
