Jenkins City Council makes annual appointments

Posted: January 17, 2013 - 6:38pm

The Jenkins City Council tackled annual appointments Monday, Jan. 14.

The council appointed the Lake Country Echo as its official newspaper, and First National Bank of Walker and 4M Fund as official depositories. Widseth Smith Nolting was named city engineering firm while Gammello, Qualley & Pearson was chosen as city attorney.

In other business Monday, the council:

• Began discussion of a joint powers agreement with Wilson Township for repair and maintenance of roads located partially within Jenkins and partially within Wilson Township.

• Began a discussion with Pequot Lakes Police Chief Eric Klang about the warning siren on County Road 16. When the siren was installed in 2007 no agreement was made concerning who would pay for maintenance and electricity costs of the siren.

• Discussed a 1 percent lodging tax ordinance paid by lodgers at local resorts and other places of lodging. This tax is not new, but the current ordinances must be updated to reference the proper statutes. The issue was tabled pending further information.
