Maury Edward Zins made his debut into the world at 12:12 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, as the first baby born in Crow Wing County in 2013.
At 9 pounds, 1 ounce and 21.5 inches, Maury’s mother, Molly, said he’s a big guy.
“He’s healthy. Doing a lot of sleeping and eating,” Molly said.
Molly and her husband, Matt, have one other child, Liam, who is 4. They live in Pequot Lakes.
“He’s really excited. Very happy to be a big brother,” Molly said of Liam.
Maury was due on Christmas day. Through the holidays, the Zinses waited anxiously for signs of labor.
Molly first started to see those early labor signs on Jan. 1, and went to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd on Jan. 2. Matt and Molly didn’t realize Maury would be the first baby of the new year.
“We were hoping that he would arrive closer to his due date, but I guess the days came and went. We thought it was possible, and we didn’t realize that people really watch for the first baby,” Molly said. “When we learned he was the first, we were surprised because he was born on the third.”
Maury Edward is named for two of his great-grandfathers. Maury is Molly’s grandfather; Edward is Matt’s grandfather.
