The second annual Uppgaard Wildlife Management Area Christmas Bird Count on the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway was conducted Saturday, Dec. 22.
Participants met at the A-Pine Restaurant before conducting the bird count with Judd Brink, Christmas Bird Count organizer and data compiler for the Uppgaard Wildlife Management Area (WMA) count.
Participants watched for the Birds of the Byway highway signs that designate the following areas along the byway for wildlife viewing: Uppgaard WMA, Veterans Trail, Rice Lake Lowell WMA, Chiarella FMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground and park in Crosslake.
The count was part of the 113th Audubon Christmas Bird Count. The information collected is used to track migration patterns and changes in winter bird species abundance.
