Don’t ask me who assigns what days and what months to foods, but May has been proclaimed National Burger Month.
You can make burgers out of ground beef, ground chicken, ground pork or even ground vegetables. But to be a true hamburger, the sandwich must be made with beef.
Of course, the recipe list for hamburgers, cheeseburgers, bacon burgers and inside-out burgers is practically endless. So I’ve narrowed it down and found a few that are a bit different and definitely worth giving a try.
And in honor of the burger, I dug around and found some trivia about one of America’s favorite foods. So amaze your family and friends with these exciting facts about what they probably think is just a plain, old ordinary hamburger.
• Burgers have become so popular and widespread that they make up more than 70 percent of the food sold in commercial restaurants. Today, the average size of a burger is 23 percnet larger than in 1977.
• Americans are the largest consumers of hamburgers, eating 13 billion a year. Lined up, these burgers would circle the earth 32 times
• Hamburgers got their name from Hamburg, Germany, where a cut of beef called the Hamburg steak is from. This evolved into what we now know as the hamburger.
• During World War I, the U.S. government tried to rename hamburgers as “liberty sandwiches.”
• The Big Mac was introduced in 1968 and sold for 49 cents.
• PETA once offered the town of Hamburg, N.Y., $15,000 to change its name to Veggieburg.

This burger is made from white truffle butter-infused Japanese Wagyu beef. Then the burger is topped with James Montgomery cheddar cheese, black truffles and a fried quail egg. It is served on a gold-dusted campagna roll spread with white truffle butter, and the roll is topped with a blini, creme fraiche and caviar.
