The Pine River Senior Citizens meet every Tuesday for games at the Legion for 500 and at Heartland Apartments for dominoes beginning at 1 p.m. Blood pressures are taken the second Tuesday at the Legion. New players are always welcome.

Backus Legion reschedules garden show for May 18

Plants & Potluck, the Backus American Legion’s annual garden show, originally scheduled for April 27, has been re-scheduled for May 18 because of the late spring weather.

The event includes a complimentary seed, bulb and plant exchange and giveaway from 3-4:20 p.m., followed by social time and a 6:15 p.m. potluck dinner.

Area nurseries are welcome to attend and sell products of their choosing.

This just in: We are all ready for the snow to stop falling and the ice to leave us for the year!

It seems like no matter where you go the crazy, unseasonable weather is all people are talking about. Click on social media sites and you are bombarded with people complaining about the lack of our beloved traditional spring.

I get it! I really do. I love spring. It is my favorite season of the year. The chirping birds, budding trees and green grass bring a sense of hope after a cold and harsh winter.

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will host a rummage sale from 1-8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 3.

Donations can be made two weeks before the sale inside the northwest basement door.

All proceeds go to local charities, such as the Lakes Area Food Shelf, Lutheran Social Services, Lakes Area Pregnancy Support, Lutheran Blind Services and Lutheran Tape Ministry.

There will also be a bake sale.
