The Brainerd Family YMCA will offer an American Health and Safety Institute CPR for the community and the workplace and an American Safety and Health Institute Basic First Aid class.

The CPR class will meet from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the YMCA. Participants will learn to recognize and respond to the signals of heart attack, cardiac arrest and stroke as well as other medical emergencies for adults, children and infants, including obstructed airway (choking), allergic reactions and drowning. 

The Minnesota Highway Safety Center will offer the following 55+ Driver Improvement courses on the following days:

• May 31: four-hour refresher, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m., Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa.

• June 5-6: eight-hour first-time course, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Crosslake Community Center.

• June 6: four-hour refresher, noon-4 p.m., Pequot Lakes Baptist Church.

• June 7: four-hour refresher, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Pine River State Bank, Pine River.

• June 10: eight-hour first-time course, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Emily United Methodist Church, Emily.

A conditional use permit was unanimously approved by the Cass County Board of Adjustment for a campground on Loon Lake following a field inspection at the site.

Opening Friday, June 1, in Pequot Lakes will be a new and, in many ways, unique gift shop, the Calico Cupboard. Owners are Bob and Joanne Hurst and Dil and Sherry Stachour.
