Miss Brainerd Lakes Heather Erickson was the guest speaker at the Nisswa Lions Club’s meeting Monday, March 25.

Erickson gave an overview of the Miss America Organization and her year as Miss Brainerd Lakes. She spoke about the guiding principles of style, success, service and scholarship.

She has volunteered at the Children’s Hospital as a part of her service. She helped children in the hospital by interfacing between doctors, family and ill children.

Jim Starkey, commander of Nisswa American Legion Post 627, said that at a recent post meeting, members voted to send two boys to the 64th annual American Legion “Legion Boys State” on June 9-15 on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall.

Bill Marshall was named post Boys State chairman.

Scholars to Boys State must be high school juniors. They are singly honored in view of the outstanding qualifications set forth as requirements in selecting them. They are named through cooperation of the post, high school faculty and leading citizens in the community.

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, in the Pequot Lakes Middle Level gym.

Those who attend must bring a photo ID or a donor card, and they must be 16 or older. Those who are 16 must have a signed Red Cross parental/guardian consent form in order to donate.

Walk-ins are welcome. No appointment is necessary, but you may have to wait.
