Pequot Lakes Library news, notes and happenings

BY CLAIRE NAGEL

The Pequot Lakes Community Library, along with the Early Childhood Coalition and the Early Childhood Family Education program, is sponsoring a Daddy’s Night Out With the Kids event from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at the library.

The theme for the evening is Winter Olympics at the Library. Singing songs, doing activities, reading books about winter sports and making a project will make it a fun evening for everyone. All family members are welcome.

Library as art gallery

We are starting a new program. Every two months, we will have a different artist displaying his or her artwork in our meeting room (as well as continuing to use it for meetings).

Steven Weagel, local metal sculptor and hand-blown glass artist, is displaying metal sculptures here now and for the next two months. Everyone is invited to come in any time during open hours and see his work.

Weagel will also be helping the library to find other artists to come and display. He will give a talk about his work from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1. Light refreshments will be served.

This is a great opportunity to see what’s happening with art and artists in our area, as well as to get to know and talk with the artists. Give serious thought to coming!

Free tax help available

Starting the first Thursday in February, the Pequot Lakes Library will again host AARP tax-aide help. Tax experts will be available from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays in February (and March, if needed). Appointments for the 45-minute sessions are necessary and may be made by signing up at the library or by calling 568-6181.

This free service is aimed at seniors, young families and those with low to middle incomes.

Special display for February

The 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi, Russia, begin Feb. 7. A display of winter sports and news of the current Olympics will be shown at the library, starting at the beginning of February.

Thank you volunteers

What would we do without you? (We’d languish.)
