Unlimited Learning invites Andrew Hook, PhD to discuss U.S. involvement in Afghanistan from his experiences in 2002-11 teaching finance and banking in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Nov. 14. Dr. Hook also worked with IMF and the World Bank providing infrastructure and finance assistance to several Middle Eastern countries before retiring in Deerwood.
He will relate his experiences regarding social and economic conditions beginning with the defeat of the Taliban in 2002. At that time, there were significant challenges to the international community as well as to the Afghans governing the country. Hook will share his analysis of U.S. efforts over the last 10 years aimed at stabilizing the economy, politics and military. With the advantage of hindsight, he will offer lessons and possible next steps. He will show a PowerPoint to familiarize participants with the area. The presentation will be at Heartwood Senior Living, Crosby, at 1:30 p.m. Non-members are welcome at a cost of $5.
