A popular country hit lyric from a few years ago reads, “Lookin’ back, all I can say about all the things he did for me, is I hope I’m at least half the Dad he didn’t have to be.”
Thoughts of the recently celebrated Father’s Day stay with us as we remember our dads, grandpas and uncles with all they have added to our lives.
The song was written about a man who stepped into a young boy’s life and changed it forever. Although it wasn’t actually about being a Kinship mentor, its message rings so true. How many boys in our area haven’t had that experience — a man to admire and pattern his life after? Mentors can impact a life in such a profound way, setting a pattern and offering the potential of a valuable life. Children in our community are in need of hope, guidance and a chance to be great. Adults, sharing their lives and caring for these children, can be a part of doing just that.
Do you have a heart big enough to share your life experiences with a child? There are boys and girls waiting, hungry for your attention and needing your influence. You can make a difference with just a couple hours a week.
