One of the earliest spring break ups in many years means virtually all Minnesota lakes will be ice free when the summer fishing season opens Saturday, May 12.

Nisswa School’s fifth annual Grandparents Day event proved to be a big success. Teacher Mike Zauhar, who organized the event, said more than 130 grandparents came to have coffee, lunch and enjoy a song and dance program by students.

More than 200 runners participated in the second annual Breezy Point-Camp Confidence 10K run May 7.

From the Lake Country Echo

A fluorescent green primer painted on the Nisswa caboose had the town buzzing. The caboose eventually was painted spruce green.

Chuck Sundeen, Wayne “Wheaties” Wallin, LeeAnn M. Langenbau Stange and Bill Cline were inducted into the Pequot Lakes Hall of Fame. Senior athletes of the year were Andy Loven and Chris Larsen.

Crosslake Community School’s new building is under construction behind the Old Fire Hall. The school will begin offering classes for grades seven and eight.

The Pequot Lakes-Breezy Point Chamber of Commerce honored Ron and Darlene Schaefer as Citizens of the Year and Louis Hoglund of the Lake Country Echo as Employee of the Year.
