On Monday, April 1, hundreds of bowlers participating in the Good Samaritan Bowl X gathered at Mills Ford in Baxter for the Good Sam Bowl Alley Rally.
Bowlers of all ages picked up their pledge packets and were greeted by Ron Shara and his dog, Raven, hosts of the TV show “Minnesota Bound.”
“The Good Samaritan Bowl is the largest fundraiser and friendraiser of the nonprofit Good Samaritan Society, which operates senior care facilities in 32 states,” said Liz Csanda, community relations director for Good Samaritan Society. “All proceeds raised through the Good Sam Bowl X at Jack’s House in Brainerd will go toward remodeling resident bathing tub rooms, spiritual ministries and hospice room and care.”
Approximately 1,000 bowlers will bowl in the Good Sam Bowl X on Sunday, May 5, and Monday, May 6, at Jack’s House and at Pine River Community Bowl. Bowlers get pledge donations to raise the funds.
Members of one of the teams sponsored by the Nisswa American Legion and Nisswa Lions Club checked in at the Alley Rally and talked with Shara and Raven.
Brian Lehman, Nisswa mayor and resource development director for Good Samaritan Society, said, “It is an honor and a privilege to have these wonderful individuals who served our country on our Beyond the Yellow Ribbon bowling team. We have Andy Thomas who is 101 years young who served in World War II, Lloyd Johnson who served in the Korean War, and Steve Suer and Larry Magel who served in the Vietnam War, and Nisswa Legion Commander Jim Starkey. These are true heroes and patriots that should never be taken for granted.”
To make a pledge donation to the Good Samaritan Society, checks can be made to Good Sam Bowl X and sent to Good Samaritan Society, 804 Wright St., Brainerd, MN 56401.
