Al Cheney, Nisswa Chief of Police, announced his resignation this week effective Friday, March 23. He headed the police force for three years and will return to Hutchinson to resume his former job as a patrolman.

The federal government cautioned last week that gasoline is likely to be in short supply this summer, but that it does not expect to resort to contingency plans for rationing or restricted use.

C.A. McLaird, former Pequot Lakes superintendent (1942-51), was honored at an appreciation and farewell tea along with his soon-to-be bride, Mrs. Cumal Nielson. Eugene Kennedy organized the event.

Fire destroyed the 28-year-old Shamp’s Meat Market in Pine River on Friday, March 12.

(photo) Charlotte Greer, a Pequot Lakes elementary teacher for 25 years, was named Teacher of the Year. Presenting the plaque is Jim Oraskovich, elementary principal. Apples for the teacher were presented to Greer by Lynn Couch, 1992 Teacher of the Year.
