Flu season called severe

Posted: January 17, 2013 - 6:38pm

This year’s flu season is very severe, with the number of people affected by the flu fiercely rising.

People who have certain medical conditions, pregnant women, children and those 65 and older are at highest risk of getting flu.

Common symptoms of the flu are: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headache and fatigue. Some people may experience vomiting and diarrhea.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms follow the proper precautions to help stop spread of the flu by avoiding close contact, wash your hands frequently with soap and water, cough into your sleeve and stay home, if possible.

It is not too late to get your flu shot to help protect you and prevent further spread of this illness.

Cass County Public Health has flu immunizations available for those uninsured, under insured, private insurances, private pay and public insurance plans. For information or to schedule an appointment for a flu shot, call 218-547-1340, ext. 201.
