Fans may have just one response to hearing who’s coming to Crosslake Winterfest: “Dy-no-mite!”
Yes, Jimmy J.J. Walker will perform Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at Pine Peaks Events Center amidst this year’s Winterfest celebration.
Perhaps best known for his role in “Good Times,” Walker was a stand-up comedian before landing the spot on the show. Walker was working for a radio station before joining The Last Poets as an opening act, one of his first stand-up acts.
In 1972 he quit his day job and became a full-time comedian. He was later named Time Magazine’s Comedian of the Decade.
His role in “Good Times” eventually led to movie roles. Walker was boxer Bootney Farnsworth in “Let’s Do It Again,” and had roles in “Airplane!” and “Airport ’79.”
Recently, he’s made appearances on “The George Lopez Show,” “Everybody Hates Chris” with Chris Rock and “Scrubs.” Comedy remains Walker’s first love, and he tours the nation 35-45 weeks a year performing live and appearing on game shows and late night television.
Showtimes are 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. Tickets are $35, and an Italian buffet catered by Maucieri’s is $12. A full bar will be available. Tickets are sold in advance only. For tickets, call 218-692-7829. Visit www.pinepeakseventcenter.com for more information.
