This season, downtown Brainerd businesses joined forces to entice shoppers with special events.
Nancy Williams, owner of Fancy Pants Chocolates, said activities include a hidden elf with clues on its whereabouts that began Dec. 2 with a basket of items for the winner. Williams said 24 stores are participating in a coupon book Fancy Pants is sponsoring and all those stores can donate something for the basket.
On Dec. 7, Williams wanted to be able to put 30 decorated paper angels on trees in participating stores. Anyone could participate in decorating the angels. The angels could then be up in about 20 downtown stores for purchase for $1.
Until Dec. 21, any proceeds from the sale of the paper angels will be donated to The Salvation Army.
On Dec. 14, the downtown businesses will sponsor an ugly Christmas sweater contest for adults and plans are to post photos online with a popular vote deciding the winner.
On Dec. 21, plans include horse-drawn trolley rides, pictures with Santa and a registration for a Christmas dinner give-away. The trolley rides are planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Santa available from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 21.
