Laughter rang through the first-grade area of Eagle View Elementary School on Friday, Sept. 13, as several classrooms of students participated in Science Day, where students learned by doing.

First Grade Science Day included six rotations with the following topics: What Do Scientists Do?, Parts of a Whole, Scientific Tools, Wacky Science Experiments, Science and Technology, and Edible Science.

Students combined vinegar and baking soda in a bottle and then covered that bottle with a balloon to see what happened. (The balloon inflated.)

They popped chewing gum and then bubble gum into their mouths to see which type of gum resulted in the biggest bubbles, recording their results.

The made whirligigs and ice cream. They learned how to use various scientific tools such as microscopes, thermometers and goggles.

Students learned that science can be fun.
