Visitors to the Hackensack Sculpture Park from June 1 through Labor Day cast their votes for their favorite sculptured piece, and of the five pieces displayed, “Tool Shed” by Albert Belleveau garnered the most votes.

This sculptor won the People’s Choice cash prize awarded by the Northwoods Arts Council (NAC).

This NAC project of outdoor public art was displayed in the city park of Hackensack along the Paul Bunyan Trail. It was made possible by a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board administered through the Five Wings Arts Council.

Belleveau, of the Bemidji area, has been crafting large sculpture pieces for more than 20 years. His acclaimed artwork has been on display in many different states in a variety of venues both public and private.

Belleveau uses his art as “a community building tool” to bring people of all ages together. “Tool Shed” was made with hundreds of tools, which Belleveau said is representative of the “history and pioneer spirit of the north woods.”

Other artists who participated in the 2013 Hackensack Sculpture Park included Chris Gustafson of Watkins, “El Toro;” Tim Cassidy of New York Mills, “Fertile Flight” and “Stegomorph;” and Andy Arend of Rochester, “Large Mouth Bass.”
