The Northwoods Arts Council (NAC), an all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing entertainment and visual enrichment to the lakes area, is sponsoring a summer sculpture park in downtown Hackensack along the Paul Bunyan Trail.

Sculptors throughout Minnesota were invited to submit proposals to the NAC and five pieces of artwork were chosen for display from June 1 through Labor Day. The artists are Andy Arend from Rochester, Al Belleveau from Bemidji, Tim Cassidy from New York Mills, and Chris Gustafson from Watkins.

The Crosslake Art Club has an exhibition of 20 watercolor paintings by Cecelia Burgwald on display at the Crosslake Community Library.

The exhibition featuring colorful, fresh watercolors with a variety of subject matter, will be on display through the end of July.

Burgwald is a retired teacher living in the Deerwood area. She minored in art in college and is enjoying learning about watercolor. She recently took up pastels and said, “It is never too late to take up a dream.”

A Pequot Lakes Community Theater play that will soon open for the whole family is also performed by families.

“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” will open Friday night, March 15. Among the cast of many characters are several families of actors, that rehearse together on stage at the Pequot Lakes High School Auditorium.

Kate Davis is directing the play, and three of her four children are acting in the play. She got the wheels turning on this particular play a year and a half ago, when she suggested Pequot Lakes Community Theater (PLCT) do a family-oriented play.

Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts will bring two back-to-back musical opportunities to Pequot Lakes on Saturday, Feb. 9, featuring Monroe Crossing, a bluegrass and gospel quintet.

Monroe Crossing will lead a one-hour workshop on “The History of Bluegrass” from 4-5 p.m. in the Pequot Lakes High School choir room, and will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.

Attend both programs for the price on the concert ticket. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (age 60 and older) and $8 for youth.
