The Pequot Lakes Library is starting a new program. Every two months, the library will have a different artist displaying his or her artwork in the meeting room (as well as continuing to use it for meetings).
Steven Weagel, local metal sculptor and hand-blown glass artist, is displaying metal sculptures at the library for the next two months. Everyone is invited to come in any time during open hours and see his work.
Weagel majored in art at Mankato State University. His major area of study was sculpture and glass blowing. He was a partner in Chimaera Glass from 1976 until 1988 and exhibited and demonstrated glass art for those years at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. He has exhibited in shows throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
He’s received numerous awards including Best of Show at Kinship 2004 Art Dinner; Most Artistic at Grand Marais Art Colony Show 2012; first runner-up at Nisswa Majestic Pines 2008; and first place sculpture at the Brainerd Arts in the Park 2006.
Weagel will be present at a reception from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Pequot Lakes Library. (Because of incorrect information given to the Echo Journal, an incorrect date was listed in the Jan. 23 edition for this free event.)
At 1:30 p.m., Weagel will give a talk about his art. Light refreshments will be served. This is a great opportunity to see what’s happening with art and artists in the area, as well as getting to know and talk with the artists.
