Deep Portage near Hackensack has been hosting a Winter Rendezvous for 35 years, but this year Rotary International brought a group of students from throughout the state and outside the United States’ border.

Visitors to the Rendezvous came from near and far, including kids from Backus; Detroit Lakes; Liege, Belgium; and Brazil. Rotary International brought a group that included foreign exchange students from other countries, and Minnesotan students about to become students in other countries.

Visitors learned primitive skills and history at the event. Activities included orienteering, trap shooting, tomahawk throwing, rabbit stick throwing, atlatl (spear thrower) use, Johnny cake sampling, north country curling and others.
