The second annual Detour North Carve for the Kids was held Aug. 30-Sept. 1 in Hackensack, bringing in $14,010.
The event featured five professional chainsaw carving artists. Finished pieces included carved benches and signs, a bear inner tubing in colorful swim trunks and many others. Though a total of the fundraiser has not been compiled, items on auction went for a total of $14,010 collectively. An eagle carved by artist Dave Parsons sold for $1,100, the highest at this year’s auction.
Each chainsaw artist donates half of the money raised by the sale of their items to go toward local Boy Scouts and other kids’ groups. The sale of food and drinks at the event are also used to raise funds.
Last year’s event raised $5,300 for charity.
