The story of “Oliver!” will come to life on the Pequot Lakes Community Theater stage in November. Auditions will be Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 9 and 10, in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.
“Oliver!” will require a large cast, including a dozen or more orphans, a chorus of adults and more than 30 speaking roles.
Orphans will audition at 5 p.m. and should be prepared to sing the song “Where is Love?” from the musical. It can be found on YouTube. The orphans should be around age 10 to 15, although talent and maturity are more important to the casting decisions than actual age.
Arrive early to fill out the audition information form before the audition session. This will be a group audition. Participants will be asked to sing and to do dance steps. Individual auditions will also take place as needed.
Adults (age 16 and older) will audition at 6:30 p.m. and should prepare a song from any musical. Have sheet music for the audition for the accompanist to use.
Callbacks are planned for 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
Rehearsals will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, and will generally be Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays until the show opens Nov. 15. There may be some solo and scene work on Wednesdays. A rehearsal schedule will be handed out at the first rehearsal. Performances will be Nov. 15-17 and 22-24. Friday and Saturday shows will be at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday shows will be 2 p.m. matinees. Before auditioning, make sure you do not have conflicts with the performance dates.
Gary Hirsch will direct “Oliver!” Wendy DeGeest will do choreography. Hirsch and DeGeest have worked together as a director/choreographer team for nearly 20 years in the Mora area.
