On Monday, July 29, Sarah Stonich, author of “These Granite Islands” and “The Ice Chorus,” as well as a memoir, “Shelter,” will be at Turtle Town Books and Gifts in Nisswa from 2:30-3:30 p.m. to sign copies of her latest, “Vacationland.”
“Vacationland” is a collection of stories linked by the characters’ experiences at Naledi, a now defunct fishing resort in northern Minnesota. While certain passages of the novel are nostalgic and will engage any Minnesota vacationer with the love of lakes and woods, these characters are finely drawn, some with dark secrets and ambiguous motives.
The book opens with the resort dog dragging in a severed hand in the middle of a frozen Minnesota winter. It is hardly Lake Wobegon, but it’s not exactly Fargo either.
Stonich, best-selling author of “These Granite Islands,” lives in Minneapolis and spends summers in northeastern Minnesota.
Turtle Town Books & Gifts is located on Main Street, Nisswa. Because of construction, take Highway 371 to the temporary stoplight on the north side of Nisswa.
