In the April 4 Pine River Journal, the story “Backus City Council plans end to its water plant woes” said the Lakeside Baptist Church was responsible for and would be charged for a ruptured water main. The water main was on property belonging to the Pine Mountain Gospel Church and therefore is that church’s responsibility.

Also in the April 4 Journal a photo on page 7 said, “Carol Norman takes photos with children from Compassion International.” The woman pictured is Marcy Miller.

The Journal regrets the errors.

The Jenkins City Council on Monday, April 8, began discussion that could result in amendment or withdrawal of a lodging tax ordinance within the city.

The city currently has a 1 percent lodging tax in place. The money from this tax is raised through customers at the AmericInn and other lodging establishments. The money is currently paid to Ideal Township, which takes 5 percent and then pays the rest to the Whitefish Area Lodging Association (WALA).

If you could save someone from injury, or even death, by speaking up, would you hesitate?

What if, by speaking up, you risked consequences that included losing friends, losing a parent’s trust, being looked down on by your community, or even legal ramifications? Would you still speak up?

That is one risk a group of students from Pine River-Backus High School took in spite of the fact that in speaking out, some of them were admitting to using drugs at one time.

Pine River-Backus High School’s Jamie Eastman was crowned Miss Pine River on Saturday, April 6, in the PR-B High School’s old gym at the 34th annual Miss Pine River Pageant.

Katrina Adkins was crowned first princess. Kristle Peltier was crowned second princess, and Amanda Fleming won Miss Congeniality.

Candidates were escorted by seniors Drey Loge and Cody Mager.

Members of the royalty are awarded scholarships following the completion of their first college term. For Miss Pine River, the scholarship was $1,000.
