When a member of Pine Mountain Gospel Church noticed lights on in a boarded off section of the building, it was a dead giveaway that someone had broken in.

Youth pastor Blair Ecker said someone had broken in through an undisclosed means and basically explored the older part of the building, which was boarded off from the sections that are most used.

“It was kids being curious, and we kind of knew that right when we got here. Nothing was missing, nothing was broken,” Ecker said. “I hate to throw the book at some kid. This building is such a draw for the curious kids.”

Glenn MacMillan, a man known around Pine River for his contributions to the business community, passed away Wednesday, April 17.

When Glenn came to Pine River in 1940, he was just a high school student, but he quickly grew. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and survivor of two shipwrecks, but he was known locally for other accomplishments.

The East Gull Lake City Council discussed the possibility of increasing the rate for wastewater billing with local resorts such as Cragun’s and Madden’s at its meeting April 2, according to draft meeting minutes.

The council postponed making a decision pending further research.

Mayor Dave Kavanaugh said the possible rate increase has been discussed in the past and was postponed until an Equivalent Residential Connection (ERC) report could be completed for the resorts.
