The Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew wrestling team defeated Thief River Falls 46-30, but lost to the No. 12 rated Perham Yellowjackets 42-27 at a triangular in Perham on Friday, Dec. 21.

PL/PRB, 8-2 overall, are scheduled to compete at the Staples-Motley triangular at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3.

Against the Prowlers, which is rated Lean and Mean (honorable mention) in the Guillotine poll, the Road Crew grabbed a 12-0 lead as both Isaac Manthel (106 pounds) and Spencer Richards (113) both received byes.

While working part time at Breezy Point Resort I was introduced to a couple of hockey players who also work part time at the resort. I started to ask questions before realizing that maybe there are other people in the area who would like to ask the junior hockey players questions.

Questions about their home towns, how do they like the area and the program, and questions about what is in their futures. The players were most friendly and cooperative in their answers.

The Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew wrestlers placed fifth out of 35 teams while Drey Loge and Anthony Phillipson won individual titles at the Big Bear Invitational in Cass Lake-Bena High School on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14-15.

Hutchinson/Buffalo Lake-Hector was first with 213 points while Willmar was second with 164.5. Other top teams were Thief River Falls 151.5, Bemidji 148 and the Road Crew 147.
