The Nisswa-Lake Shore First Responders group has dissolved, and the Nisswa Fire Department has taken on those first responder duties, fire chief Richard Geike told the Nisswa City Council on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The former First Responder group transferred $17,418.75 to the fire department. The department has 24 firefighters and all are First Responders. They are still determining how to organize who responds to calls, Geike said.

In December, firefighters were called to six medicals; two were canceled enroute and firefighters responded to four calls.

The Pequot Lakes School construction project is 60-65 percent complete, the school board learned Monday night, Jan. 14.

And the board learned that to date, the district has used just .37 percent of construction contingency funds, or $82,958.

The board had put aside 3 percent of construction funds to be used as contingency funds.

The board received an update on the gymnasium addition at the high school at Monday’s regular board meeting.

The Pequot Lakes City Council on Tuesday, Jan. 8, authorized police chief Eric Klang to buy a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe for $33,067 from Dondelinger’s on a 3-2 vote, with council members Tyler Gardner and Jerry Akerson opposed.

As requested last month when the request was tabled, Klang provided information on the department’s fleet, including make and model of vehicles as well as mileage on each. He proposed getting rid of the vehicle with the highest mileage.

Gardner asked about the police chief using the new vehicle when he likely patrols the least.

Newly elected council members Scott Pederson and Tyler Gardner were sworn in Tuesday, Jan. 8, as was mayor Nancy Adams, who was re-elected in November.

In other annual business Jan. 8, the council approved for 2013:

• The contract for planning services with Community Growth Institute for $2,050 per month, with council member Jerry Akerson opposed.

• The prosecution agreement with Mallie Law Office for petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor and applicable gross misdemeanor offenses at $875 per month.

• The reappointment of Widseth Smith Nolting as city engineer.
