Residents and guests sat on either side of the white aisle strewn with pink paper petals that flower girl Honor St. John dropped there.

The front of the “chapel” was adorned with streamers, balloons, bows, bells and flowers. Soft piano music wafted into the room that included three couples who have been married for a combined 130 years.

The mood was festive.

Jack Schmidt of Pequot Lakes asked the city council Tuesday, Feb. 5, to ensure it is abiding by its police policy.

Specifically, Schmidt questioned the practice of officers leaving their squad cars running in winter. He said the council is obligated to honor whatever policy it set. He said the police chief wasn’t able to find the policy.

Council member Scott Pederson said he also couldn’t find the policy. But after doing research, he said there are good reasons for officers to leave squads running.

Mayor Nancy Adams said she would find the policy and contact Schmidt.

About three years after work began to update the city’s comprehensive plan, the Pequot Lakes City Council adopted that plan Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Council member Jerry Akerson cast the sole dissenting vote. The plan required four of five council members’ votes to be adopted.

That requirement blocked the plan’s passage in December 2011, when Akerson and former council member Tom Ryan voted against adoption.

The 2013 council includes newcomers Scott Pederson, who worked on the plan as a former Planning and Zoning Commission member, and Tyler Gardner.
