PLHS students undertake chores on Day of Caring

Pequot Lakes High School students were determined to show lakes area taxpayers that they appreciate the improvements being made to their school, so the participated in a Day of Caring on Thursday, May 9.

From Baxter to Pine River and Pequot Lakes to Crosslake, residents saw students hard at work, whether it was raking, painting, cleaning or building.

“It’s nice to help the community, to volunteer,” said Alyse Brockway, a ninth-grader who was clearing brush from a garden at Trailside Park in Pequot Lakes.

Young will be remembered for dedication to youth

Tim Young, 49, will be remembered for his work with Pequot Lakes youth athletics and his dedication to helping kids.

“He was great, a giving guy,” Jim Urseth said of Young, who died Sunday, Dec. 9, of an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound while hunting with a muzzleloader in Mission Township.

“He never asked for anything in return, never asked for the limelight, no accolades. He just really loved helping the kids,” Urseth said.
