County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 3 will be reconstructed beginning in the summer of 2014 from County Road 37 in Crosslake to County Road 1 in Fifty Lakes.

Crow Wing County’s highway engineering team held an open house Tuesday night, Feb. 19, to take questions and public comment.

The most current plan was on display. Steve Stroschein, Crow Wing County senior engineer, said the current plan is by no means final. Maps of the project plan were left at Crosslake City Hall.

Recently a friend of mine, Stelth Ulvang (surprisingly, that’s his real name), performed with his band, The Lumineers, at the Grammys. Though they didn’t win, they were nominated for two awards.

I am amazed at his success. The album the band released (most famous for the song “Ho Hey”) came out only about 10 months ago, and already the band is on a world-wide tour, has played on “Saturday Night Live” and most other major talk shows, and recently played live to 12,000 people over two nights in London.

The Crosslake Personnel Committee met Thursday, Feb. 14, and discussed a broad, high-level look at where administrator duties belong now that the city is operating without an administrator.

After discussion, the committee decided to send the matter to the full council.

That meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at city hall. The council will also approve bills for payment and address a request from the Northern Minnesota Railroad Heritage Association for a raffle permit.

Crosslake police officer Jake Maier was commended for being on the scene of a suicidal suspect who had talked about a “mass shooting” for more than four hours on a Saturday night in January.

Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl sent the Crosslake City Council a letter of appreciation, commending Maier’s work maintaining a perimeter at the Merrifield residence on what Dahl called a “long, cold night.”

The incident report from that night says Maier was on-scene from 10:05 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, to 2:49 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13.
