The city of Pine River went to court Jan. 31 in a jury trial regarding an individual who ran the flashing red lights of a school bus.

City attorney Ted Lundrigan told the city council Tuesday night, Feb. 12, that the city won the case. The woman who ran the lights was fined a total of $300 for the offense.

Lundrigan said in a phone interview that when it comes to school bus transgressions, the city asks for a guilty plea.

“We said plead guilty or we will try the case and that’s what we did. And that’s what we will do again,” Lundrigan said.

Following is a clarification on budget information from the Feb.14 story on Crosslake and Pequot Lakes libraries losing $20,000 in funding.

This year the Kitchigami Regional Library System (KRLS) received $20,000 less than it requested from the Crow Wing County Board. KRLS requested a 2013 budget of $549,002, but received from the board $529,002.

In 2012, KRLS’ budget was $537,412. That means KRLS’ 2013 budget is $8,410 less than 2012.

Two city council members and the mayor of Breezy Point raised their right hands and were sworn into office Monday night, Jan. 7, at the first regular council meeting of the year.

Incumbent Otto Schmid was re-elected and Diane Williams returns to the council, both for four-year terms. Mayor JoAnn Weaver was sworn in for another two-year term.

In addition to swearing in its returning members, the council passed an organizational resolution concerning committees, commissions and their liaisons.
